Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban have agreed to extend the ceasefire, according to official sources.
According to details, Reuters reported that Pakistan and Afghanistan mutually agreed on Friday to extend their 48-hour ceasefire until conclusion of planned talks in Doha, according to three Pakistani security officials and one Afghan Taliban source.
The foreign news agency reported that a Pakistani delegation had already arrived in Doha while an Afghan delegation was expected to reach the Qatari capital on Saturday, said the sources, who did not want to be named as they were not authorised to speak to the media.
However, the security forces have clarified that the Pakistani delegation remains in the country. They confirmed that the delegation is scheduled to leave for Doha tomorrow morning.
The report by a news agency claiming the delegation's presence in Doha was described as baseless by the same sources.
Earlier on Wednesday, both sides had reached an agreement on a 48-hour ceasefire, which came into effect at 6 pm the same day, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The decision to extend the ceasefire followed a request by the Afghan Taliban regime and was finalised with mutual consent, after several days of increased tension along the border.
