Pakistan Customs has reported a record increase in tax collection from imported vehicles at Taftan over the past three months. The collected tax revenue rose from 0.55 billion rupees last year to Rs1.35 billion this year for the same period.
In the previous year, 7,994 vehicles were registered, resulting in a tax collection of Rs5.5 billion. This year, with only a slight increase to 8,090 vehicle registrations, the tax collection significantly jumped to 9.6 billion rupees.
Customs officials attribute this improved performance to effective assessment, accurate weight measurement, and careful application of tax exemptions. These measures have contributed to the substantial increase in revenue despite a minimal rise in the number of registered vehicles.
This marked improvement in tax collection efficiency at the Taftan border crossing represents a significant boost to Pakistan's customs revenue from vehicle imports.
