Pakistan on Thursday firmly rejected allegations by India’s army chief, expressed optimism over the possible restoration of US visas, and outlined its position on regional developments during the weekly briefing by the Foreign Office.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi categorically rejected what he termed “baseless allegations” by the Indian army chief regarding the existence of terrorist camps in Pakistan.
India’s army chief, General Upendra Dwivedi, had on Tuesday claimed that “at least six terror camps” remain active along the Line of Control and two along the international border, despite India’s May 2025 strikes carried out under the so-called 'Operation Sindoor'. He warned that India would "act" if any “nefarious attempts” were made.
Responding to these remarks, the Foreign Office spokesperson said: “Pakistan, of course, strongly rejects the baseless allegations by the Indian army chief regarding the presence of so-called terrorist camps." He also reiterated that the involvement of Indian serving naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav in sabotage and terrorism inside Pakistan is a matter of official record.
He described the claims as “cliched, habitual and somewhat delusional”.
Andarbi emphasized that Pakistan’s extensive sacrifices and efforts in the fight against terrorism are widely recognised by the international community, adding that the country continues to play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability in the region and beyond.
Pakistan monitoring situation in Iran
The spokesperson said Pakistan is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Iran, stressing that peace and stability in the neighbouring country are in Pakistan’s national interest.
He noted that economic protests have created difficulties for the Iranian people, but Pakistan is confident that Iran will overcome the current challenges.
Pakistan has issued a travel advisory for Iran, advising citizens to ensure their safety and security.
The spokesperson said the Pakistani Embassy in Tehran, under the leadership of Mudassar Tipu, is in constant contact with Pakistanis in Iran and is providing all possible assistance.
During the briefing, the Foreign Office also strongly condemned the sentencing of Asia Andrabi, calling it unjust and unacceptable.
PM–Qatar emir call highlights strong ties
The spokesperson confirmed that the prime minister recently held a telephone conversation with the Emir of Qatar. Both leaders expressed satisfaction over the development of bilateral relations and agreed to further strengthen cooperation.
The spokesperson announced that President Asif Ali Zardari is scheduled to visit Bahrain. Trade, along with bilateral and regional issues, will be discussed during the visit, which he said reflects the deep and friendly relations between Pakistan and Bahrain.
Pakistan’s stance at OIC meeting
Andrabi also said that Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar attended the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation meeting in Jeddah. During the meeting, Pakistan reiterated its position on Somaliland, with Ishaq Dar strongly condemning Israel’s decision to recognize Somaliland, calling it an unacceptable attack on Somalia’s sovereignty.
He further said that Dar also stressed the need to intensify international efforts to support the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The spokesperson said Pakistan remains firm on its principled stance on Kashmir and will continue raising the issue at all relevant international forums.
