Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) chapter president and former prime minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas issued a video message after an attack by members of the Action Committee.
He said that he was travelling to his ancestral home in LA-22 Poonch-5 when his convoy entered the limits of AJK. After covering around one and a half kilometres, he was attacked at the Union Council Tain Dhalkot area.
Sardar Tanveer Ilyas said his companion, SSG commando Sardar Muhammad Asif, lost his life while trying to protect him during the attack, while other members of the convoy were also injured.
He said those who raise concerns over shortages of flour and essential food items were themselves blocking roads and affecting the state system and daily life of ordinary people.
He added that efforts were made to resolve the matters through dialogue and mediation, but those involved in violence and lawlessness could not be given any concession. He called for firm action against elements involved in terrorism and unrest.
Sardar Tanveer Ilyas questioned the reason behind the death of Sardar Muhammad Asif and said security personnel, including Rangers, police and Frontier Corps personnel, were also losing their lives while fighting such groups.
He said a decisive operation against those involved in violence had become necessary and that the Army may also have to play its role if required. He said such elements could not be tolerated in Poonch or any other part of the state.
He added that those attempting to take control of the state, spread lawlessness and impose hostile agendas would not receive any relief or exemption.
