The two-day Dekho Film Festival wrapped up at Lahore Arts Council Alhamra, celebrating Pakistan’s young filmmaking talent, creative storytelling, and the growing influence of cinema in shaping national identity.
Veteran film director Syed Noor announced that he would cast one male and one female participant from the festival in his upcoming film.
In the film and broadcasting category, Punjab University student Wajih ul Hassan emerged as the winner, recognized for his outstanding work. The Vice Chancellor of Punjab University, Muhammad Ali, presented a shield to a senior producer for his exemplary contributions to the film industry.
Encouraging words for young filmmakers
Chairperson Lubna Zaheer congratulated participants for their achievements, noting that the festival received hundreds of entries from across Pakistan, with 30 shortlisted films screened during the event.
Actor Sonia Hussain encouraged budding filmmakers to pursue their dreams, emphasizing that film is a powerful medium for national identity and cultural expression.
Dr Qaiser Rafiq urged participants to portray a positive and beautiful image of Pakistan globally, highlighting the shared responsibility of showcasing the country’s true face.
Workshops, interactions
The festival saw a large turnout of young attendees who engaged with actors, directors, and producers. Souvenirs were presented to special guests, while acting and scriptwriting workshops offered hands-on learning opportunities.
Prominent industry figures present on the final day included senior producer Safdar Malik, interim PEMRA chairman Sikandar Rasheed, film director Shehzad Rafiq, drama writer Amna Mufti, actor Iftikhar Ahmed Usmani, and comedian Honey Albela.
The festival also hosted a memorable mushaira, chaired by Ahmad Hammad, featuring renowned poets Farhat Abbas Shah, Ali Zarui, Wajid Ameer, and Dr. Sajjad Baloch. Students from Punjab University’s Film and Broadcasting Department applauded performances that explored diverse themes, leaving a lasting impression on attendees.
