The government has decided to keep the prices of petroleum products unchanged for the next fortnight, starting from January 16.
According to an official notification issued by the Petroleum Division, petrol will continue to be sold at Rs253.17 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel will remain at Rs257.08 per litre.
The officials said the decision was taken to protect the public from further inflationary pressure and in view of fluctuations in the international oil market.
It may be recalled that on January 1, the government reduced the price of petrol by Rs10.28 per litre, bringing it down to Rs253.17 per litre.
Similarly, the price of diesel was cut by Rs8.57 per litre, after which it was fixed at Rs257.08 per litre.
