Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has issued directives to all private medical colleges to lower their admission merit to address vacant seats in medical programs.
According to the official notification, students can now gain admission to MBBS programs with a minimum of 50% marks, while the merit for BDS programs has been reduced to 45%. Colleges have been instructed to complete all admissions within three days.
The PMDC clarified that the merit relaxation is a one-time measure applicable only for the current academic year. The decision aims to prevent the wastage of medical seats left unfilled under the previous merit criteria.
