A founding leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Akbar S. Babar has held party’s founder Imran Khan directly responsible for the May 9 incident and predicted a conviction in the case.
Speaking to Samaa TV, Akbar S. Babar said that Pakistan should not see the emergence of another Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He said that had the government implemented the verdict in the PTI foreign funding case, the events of May 9 would not have occurred. He said PTI’s politics had endangered national security and served hostile interests.
He added that he did not wish to brand Imran Khan a 'traitor', stating that this was a matter for the Supreme Court.
Akbar S. Babar said that Imran Khan sought the withdrawal of cases and secret understandings through talks with the establishment. He said all allegations he levelled against PTI had been proven in court. Referring to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he said the province was being pushed towards an age of backwardness.
He said the PTI leadership was not prepared even to shoulder the coffins of martyrs and questioned why PTI supporters avoided calling a terrorist a terrorist. He said that without strong national defence, Pakistan could not expect mercy from India.
He also opposed the appointment of opposition leaders nominated by Imran Khan saying that the appointment of an opposition leader nominated by a convicted person would be unlawful.
