Terrorists launched an attack in Kalat during the night between Friday and Saturday, freeing 10 prisoners and abducting five police personnel, according to police sources.
The inmates were being transported in a private van from Gadani Jail to Quetta when the convoy was intercepted by armed assailants at a blockade on the national highway near Mangocher.
According to police sources, the attackers freed the prisoners and took five police personnel hostage along with their weapons. Two officers, dressed in plain clothes, managed to escape.
Among the freed inmates, one was a convict on death row while another was serving a life sentence, sources added.
A search operation is currently underway to track down the fleeing inmates, apprehend the attackers, and recover the abducted policemen.
