Customs officials at Karachi International Airport seized 51 expensive mobile phones worth around Rs20.74 million from an expatriate family.
This is the latest incident in a series of cases where smugglers have been caught using travellers and Umrah pilgrims to smuggle mobile phones into the country.
The family comprising women and children arrived in Karachi on an international flight on Sunday.
During the search, customs officials recovered mobile phones of different models from the family's luggage. The value of the seized mobile phones is estimated to be Rs20.74 million.
Three members of the family were arrested on the spot and a case was registered against them under the Customs Act.
Customs officials have warned travellers and Umrah pilgrims not to be lured by cheap tickets offered by smugglers.
They have also advised travellers to declare all of their valuables to customs officials upon arrival in Pakistan.
