The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) penned a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly regarding the Shandana Gulzar case.
According to sources within the FIA, the missive was dispatched on Monday, marking a pivotal step in the ongoing investigation.
Shandana Gulzar, a member of the National Assembly representing the Sunni Unity Council, has found herself embroiled in controversy, accused of various infractions including incitement to revolt through social media channels.
The allegations stem from a petition filed against her by Shoaib Mirza, an activist affiliated with Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N).
The crux of the matter revolves around an alleged audio leak implicating Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, wherein the name of the deceased Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) worker, Zille Shah, was purportedly mentioned. Sources indicate that an inquiry is currently underway against Gulzar, who represents NA 30.
Furthermore, Gulzar stands accused of disseminating content that purportedly incites hatred against the state and its leaders. The FIA has taken cognizance of the matter, issuing a summons for Gulzar to appear before authorities in Lahore on March 14. Notably, a copy of the notice has been forwarded to the Speaker of the National Assembly.
In the letter addressed to the Speaker, FIA authorities cite Section 5(2) of the Majlis Shura Privileges, Immunities Act 2023 as the legal basis for the notice. Speaking to Sama, a senior FIA official emphasized the importance of compliance, stating that failure to appear after two consecutive notices could result in legal action.
The summons follows an application filed by PML-N activist Shoaib Mirza, prompting the FIA to initiate proceedings against Gulzar.
