Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has criticised the judicial delays in the PTI founder’s case, stating that despite a 2017 filing, the case has not been heard to this day.
Speaking to media outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Barrister Gohar said: “Justice must not only be done but be seen to be done. The court has taken an oath to uphold this principle. Imran Khan has struggled for justice for 29 years and is now seeking it from behind bars."
He talked about Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif, saying, "Nawaz Sharif received bail 70 days after his first case and 91 days after his second case, where he was sentenced to 10 years."
"In contrast, the PTI founder has been in jail for over 600 days, with new cases filed successively," he said.
Barrister Gohar said, “We were promised our case would be heard this week, but it wasn’t. We now hope it will be heard on June 5.”
– Judiciary must uphold justice –
Meanwhile, expressing his thoughts Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had urged judges to deliver decisions based on truth.
“We stand with our judges if they decide justly. The 26th Amendment is an attack on the judiciary. Our mandate has been stolen,” he said.
CM Gandapur said, “Imran Khan faces false charges; his earlier case wasn’t even scheduled. Those running the system are playing games.”
“Our movement was active and will continue. We will announce the next steps in due course,” he said.
The KP chief minister said: “We do not speculate prematurely.”
