Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet today (Monday) in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad to sight the moon of Zil-Hajj.
Muslims around the world celebrate Eid ul-Adha on the 10th of Zil-Hajj. In Pakistan, efforts to sight the new moon are made on the 29th of each Islamic month.
Zonal and Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will convene across the country today. If the moon is sighted, Eid ul-Adha will be observed on June 6. If not, the festival will be celebrated on June 7.
Experts, however, believe that the chances of moon sighting on May 27 are extremely low, making June 7 the more likely date for Eid.
SUPARCO, Pakistan’s national space agency, has also ruled out the possibility of moon sighting on May 27, stating that the moon will likely be visible on May 28, which would place Eid ul-Adha on June 7.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will officially announce the Eid date based on moon sighting reports later tonight.
