The Indian military carried out 24 attacks on six different locations across Pakistan late on Tuesday night, targeting civilian areas, places of worship, and residential neighbourhoods, the director general of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) said in a high-level press briefing.
According to the military spokesperson, at least eight Pakistani citizens, including women and a young girl, were martyred, while 35 others sustained injuries in the strikes. Among the worst-hit areas were Muzaffarabad, Ahmedpur East, Muridke, Shakargarh, Sialkot (Kotli Lohara), and Kotli in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
Mosques deliberately targeted
Several mosques were directly hit in what Pakistan has described as a “cowardly and deliberate targeting of sacred sites.”
-
Masjid Bilal in Muzaffarabad was completely destroyed, injuring a girl in the process.
-
Masjid Subhan in Ahmedpur East and Abbas Mosque in Kotli were also hit, with two worshippers martyred.
-
A mosque in Muridke also came under fire.
“These attacks reflect the enemy’s complete disregard for civilian lives and religious sanctity,” said the ISPR DG.
Ahmedpur East suffers heavy losses
In Ahmedpur East, five Pakistanis, including women and a girl, were martyred when Indian shells struck residential areas. Emergency response units rushed to the scene as rescue and relief efforts continue.
Other attacks
-
Shakargarh was also targeted, though no casualties or damage were reported.
-
Two shells failed to explode in separate attacks, limiting destruction in those areas.
-
In Kotli Lohara, north of Sialkot, two strikes were reported but the extent of the damage remains minimal.
'Befitting reply underway': Pakistan Army
The ISPR DG assured the nation that the Pakistan armed forces are actively responding to Indian aggression with full force.
“Cowardly India attacked Pakistan without provocation, but our response has been swift and effective. The enemy will be taught a lesson it will not forget,” said the military spokesperson.
