FIA blacklists passports of all those involved and imposed five-year travel ban on them
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested 324 beggars, including 119 women, and two human smugglers at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport as part of an intensified effort to curb human trafficking and restore Pakistan’s global image.
According to the FIA’s Human Trafficking Circle Karachi, 204 individuals attempting to travel abroad for begging purposes were caught at departure gates in 2024 alone. In addition, 269 individuals were detained upon arrival at the airport after being deported for begging overseas.
“This misuse of Umrah visas has not only tarnished the country’s image but also highlights a growing human trafficking network,” said Rabia Qureshi, Deputy Director of the FIA.
Passports Blacklisted, Travel Bans Imposed
FIA has blacklisted the passports of all those involved and imposed a five-year travel ban on them. The agency has also taken further steps by blocking the national identity cards and bank accounts of those found guilty.
“Only two out of 26 suspected agents have been arrested so far, but efforts are ongoing to trace and prosecute the entire network,” added Bahawal Osto, Deputy Director of Immigration.
The FIA emphasized that this operation aims not only to stop illegal activities but also to protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation by trafficking networks under the guise of religious travel.
