Pakistan has finalised plans to issue international bonds worth $2.75 billion over the next three years.
According to details surfaced on Tuesday, the preparations are underway to launch a Panda Bond worth $250 million by the end of this month or in February. The Ministry of Finance said that the value of Panda Bonds is expected to gradually reach $1 billion.
In addition to the Chinese market, Pakistan will also approach the international capital markets. The total bond volume could rise to $1 billion by the next financial year. Plans are in place to issue a further $1.5 billion in international bonds in the 2027-28 financial year.
The issuance of international bonds is expected to improve external commercial financing and help reduce the financing gap in the coming years. International agencies have recently upgraded Pakistan’s rating, and further improvements in macroeconomic conditions are likely to support external financing.
