The estate of the renowned Irish singer, Sinéad O'Connor, has issued a stern rebuke to former US President Donald Trump, demanding that he cease the use of her music at his political rallies.
Trump's appropriation of O'Connor's iconic rendition of "Nothing Compares 2 U" at a recent campaign event has drawn sharp criticism from the late singer's estate, labeling the act as disrespectful and offensive.
In a joint statement released by Chrysalis Records, O'Connor's longtime label, and her estate, it was emphasized that the singer lived by a moral code characterized by honesty, kindness, and decency.
The estate expressed outrage at Trump's use of O'Connor's music, citing her own previous characterization of him as a "biblical devil."
"It is no exaggeration to say that Sinéad would have been disgusted, hurt, and insulted to have her work misrepresented in this way by someone who she herself referred to as a ‘biblical devil’," the statement asserted.
O'Connor, who rose to international fame with her rendition of "Nothing Compares 2 U" in 1990, spent weeks atop the UK charts with the haunting ballad. Her impact extended beyond the realm of music, as she was known for her candid discussions about mental health struggles and her vocal criticism of the Catholic Church, which played a significant role in the evolution of societal norms in Ireland.
The singer's sudden passing last July at the age of 56 shocked the world, with a coroner attributing her death to natural causes. However, her legacy continues to resonate, with her estate fiercely guarding the integrity of her artistic contributions.
