Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam said on Sunday that he could only make efforts to regain his form, after his impressive knock of 94 went in vain during their last match against Karachi Kings.
Speaking at a press conference in Rawalpindi, Azam stated: “When you bowl first, you assess the pitch better. It is an art to understand the behaviour of the pitch as well.” He also praised the return of foreign players to PSL X, following a brief pause caused by heightened tensions between Pakistan and India.
“There is no doubt that there was a short break in PSL X, but it is commendable to see foreign players returning for the remaining matches,” he said. “There is no satisfaction in playing a good innings if the team ends up losing.”
Reflecting on his dismissals, Azam commented: “It’s rarely due to good deliveries that I get out. Most of the time, it’s my own mistakes.”
On regaining form, he said: “Sometimes, scoring just 20–40 runs can help you find your rhythm. Whether it’s a new or old approach, my aim is to score runs.”
Azam clarified that no discussions had been held with the PCB selectors regarding plans for upcoming matches. “It doesn’t necessarily mean that I will always open the batting for the team in T20 internationals,” he added.
Commenting on the ongoing league, he said: “We’re enjoying our time in PSL X. We especially enjoyed the fireworks display at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.”
He also lauded his team, Zalmi, for acknowledging the Pakistan Armed Forces and their great efforts in defending the country.
