After a hesitant start with the bat, Tom Banton struck 63 not out and Jacob Bethell made 32 as England secured a five-wicket victory over Scotland in the 23rd match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Saturday.
England, having elected to field first, dismissed Scotland for 152 in 19.4 overs. Richie Berrington led the resistance with 49 from 32 balls, striking five fours and two sixes. Michael Jones added 33 off 20 deliveries, while Tom Bruce contributed 24. Oliver Davidson remained unbeaten on 20.
Adil Rashid returned figures of three for 36 in four overs. Jofra Archer claimed two for 24, while Liam Dawson also took two wickets.
In reply, England reached 155 for five in 18.2 overs.
Phil Salt and Jos Buttler departed early, leaving England two for 13 inside two overs. Bethell steadied the innings with 32 from 28 balls before he fell in the 10th over.
Banton then took command, striking four fours and three sixes in his 41-ball innings. He brought up his half-century from 33 deliveries. Sam Curran supported with 28 from 20 balls, and Will Jacks remained unbeaten on 16 to complete the chase.
Brandon McMullen, Brad Currie, Brad Wheal, Michael Leask and Oliver Davidson each claimed one wicket for Scotland.
England achieved the target with 10 balls to spare.
