Millions of people attended funeral prayers for the Iran's late supreme leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in Mashhad.
The funeral prayer was led by Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani. Millions of mourners took part in the ceremony. Ayatollah Khamenei was laid to rest in the grounds of the Imam Reza Shrine. Roads around the shrine were filled with mourners.
Participants wave red flags
Participants waved red flags, regarded as a symbol of revenge. They also carried photographs of the late leader, Iranian flags and Pakistani flags.
During the past six days, Ayatollah Khamenei's body was taken to several cities in Iran and Iraq, where millions of people attended funeral prayers and paid tribute.
Before the coffin reached Mashhad, funeral ceremonies and memorial events were held in several places, including the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala. Large crowds attended the events to pay their respects.
Iranian authorities said the six-day funeral ceremonies were held with reverence and respect in both Iran and Iraq. The burial in Mashhad marked the end of the official ceremonies.
The seven-day funeral programme began on Friday at Imam Khomeini Mosalla in Tehran. Public farewell ceremonies and funeral prayers were held on Saturday and Sunday. Tributes continued in Tehran on Monday, Qom on Tuesday, and the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala on Wednesday.
The burial of Ayatollah Khamenei brought to a close six days of public mourning held across five cities in Iran and neighbouring Iraq.
