United States President Donald Trump has admitted that Pakistan cannot be ignored, stressing the importance of maintaining engagement with the South Asian nation.
During his interview with American news outlet, Trump stated that Pakistan and India were dangerously close to a nuclear conflict. "The situation had escalated to the point where nuclear war could have broken out," he said.
Trump was of the view that the conflict was intensifying, with missile attacks being carried out. "The fighting was escalating; missiles were being launched with maximum force," he added.
He emphasised that both nations are not just small nuclear forces but major nuclear powers. "These are not minor powers—they are major nuclear powers," Trump said.
He mentioned having positive discussions with Pakistan. "We had excellent talks with Pakistan," he said, noting that communication was ongoing.
Trump stated that Pakistan is interested in increasing trade with the United States. "They want to trade with us," he said.
He acknowledged that while US trade with Pakistan is limited, bilateral relations remain positive.
Trump praised the Pakistani nation, saying, "They are intelligent people. They make amazing things."
He directed his officials to communicate with both countries. "I told my people to reach out to Pakistan and India," Trump said.
Trump recounted encouraging both nations to focus on commerce. "We said to both countries, 'We should do trade'," he stated.
Trump confirmed that trade negotiations with Pakistan were initiated during his tenure.
In a separate comment, Trump claimed Iran was eager for an agreement with the United States.
Trump warned of severe consequences for Russia if Ukraine does not reach a settlement. "If a deal is not made with Ukraine, we will impose devastating sanctions on Russia," he stated.
Trump downplayed any political leverage the Ukrainian president might have. "The Ukrainian president has no 'Trump card'," he said.
"This is the greatest success—it should be acknowledged," Trump remarked, referring to recent developments in international relations.
