Maaz Sadaqat (55 off 33) and Babar Azam (53 off 49) powered Peshawar Zalmi to a six-wicket victory over Islamabad United in the 22nd match of the tenth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday.
Chasing a target of 144, Zalmi completed the equation with six wickets remaining and 20 balls to spare. Mitchell Owen (6), Saim Ayub (1), and Mohammad Haris (13) failed to provide significant resistance with the bat. Max Bryant (4) remained unbeaten.
After losing three successive wickets in the run-chase, Zalmi captain Babar Azam and Sadaqat steadied the innings, ensuring a comfortable victory for their team.
For United, Kyle Mayers (1-28), Ben Dwarshuis (1-23), Naseem Shah (1-24), and Riley Meredith (1-30) each took one wicket. Salman Agha (0-7), Imad Wasim (0-14), and Saad Masood (0-20) remained wicketless.
Earlier, after opting to bat first, United, having started well, encountered a few hiccups and were eventually restricted to 143-9 in 20 overs. Sahibzada Farhan was the top scorer for United, making 36 off 35 balls.
Ben Dwarshuis scored an unbeaten 33 off 17 balls, including three boundaries and two sixes.
For Zalmi, Mohammad Ali (3-26) was the standout bowler, taking three wickets. Luke Wood (1-26), Alzarri Joseph (1-29), Ahmed Daniyal (1-29), Saim Ayub (1-16), and Hussain Talat (1-14) each took one wicket.
