Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has concluded his maiden season in the ongoing edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) with the Sydney Sixers.
According to details, the former Pakistan skipper recorded 202 runs in 11 matches, at an average of 22 and a strike rate of 103.1. Among the 350 instances of players scoring 200 or more runs in a BBL season, this remains the lowest strike rate.
For many observers, Azam’s presence among the slower run-scorers of the tournament came as no surprise. In previous competitions, he often balanced a modest scoring rate with a strong average. This season, however, neither the volume nor the pace of runs proved effective. While he scored two half-centuries, he failed to cross 15 on eight occasions. His only other notable contribution, a score of 47, was overshadowed by a separate incident.
It is pertinent to note that Pakistan have recalled senior players Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi to the national squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Australia, as announced by selectors on Friday.
