Apple is reportedly working on a major transformation of Siri, replacing its existing system with an AI chatbot driven by Google’s Gemini technology.
If implemented, the move would represent Siri’s biggest upgrade since its debut.
Sources familiar with the development say the new system is designed to make Siri far more conversational, enabling it to handle complex queries and maintain ongoing interactions rather than responding only to basic commands.
The revamped assistant is expected to roll out across future versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. From a user perspective, Siri would still be activated through the same voice prompts or device buttons, regardless of the technology running behind the scenes.
With enhanced access to personal data, the upgraded Siri could manage calendars, photos, files, and device settings in a more natural and intuitive way. New capabilities may also include content creation tools such as drafting emails and summarising notes.
As AI-powered chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini continue to gain traction, Apple is under growing pressure to modernise its digital assistant. Reports indicate that the company may formally unveil the new Siri at an upcoming developer event, with a wider release expected alongside future iPhone models.
