Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Bill Gates have emphasised the importance of an efficient tax system for long-term economic resilience.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 26th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The two sides discussed Pakistan’s ongoing reform process and priorities in the health sector.
Both agreed to further strengthen cooperation with the Gates Foundation to support sustainable development. The finance minister appreciated the foundation’s long-standing support in Pakistan, particularly its significant role in polio eradication, the Ministry of Finance said. He also acknowledged continued cooperation in addressing public health challenges and improving healthcare services.

Bill Gates briefed the minister on the foundation’s ongoing and planned activities in Pakistan and stressed the need for sustained efforts to achieve complete eradication of polio. He underlined that an effective tax system is vital for long-term economic self-reliance.
The meeting also covered further avenues of cooperation in the health sector, including local vaccine production and the strengthening of supply chains. Both sides agreed to continue consultations with relevant ministries and partners.
The finance minister and Bill Gates reaffirmed their commitment to close cooperation in the coming years, agreeing on a strong partnership based on mutual trust, shared goals and inclusive development.
