The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said on Friday that weekly inflation declined by 0.48 per cent, while the annual rate stood at 4.18 per cent.
According to the PBS, the prices of several essential items began to rise ahead of Ramazan. During the past week, prices of 12 items, including tomatoes, wheat flour, sugar and pulses, increased. Despite this, a 0.48 per cent decline in weekly inflation was recorded, while the annual inflation rate remained at 4.18 per cent.
During the week ending January 22, prices of 12 essential items increased. The average price of a 20kg bag of flour rose by up to Rs35. In various cities, a 20kg bag of flour sold between Rs1,810 and Rs3,000.
The average price of tomatoes increased by Rs8 per kg and ranged from Rs50 to Rs160 per kg in different cities. Sugar became costlier by Rs0.22 per kg and sold between Rs144 and Rs176 per kg.
During the same period, LPG prices declined by up to 3.54 per cent. Prices of 11 items, including live broiler chicken, also came down. Chicken prices dropped by 16.68 per cent, although live broiler chicken sold between Rs330 and Rs410 per kg in various cities.
