Former Pakistan cricketer and chief selector Mohammad Illyas has died at the age of 79 after a battle with cancer.
Illyas had been admitted to a local hospital a few days ago for treatment. He represented Pakistan in 10 Test matches and featured in 82 first-class games during his career.
After retirement, he served as a member of the national selection committee. He also headed the junior selection committee and the women’s cricket selection committee.
Mohammad Illyas was the father-in-law of former Pakistan opener Imran Farhat.
PCB chief expresses grief over death of Ilyas
Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Test cricketer Mohammad Ilyas.
In his message, the PCB chairman extended heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family, sharing in their grief at this difficult time. Naqvi paid tribute to the late Mohammad Ilyas for his services to Pakistan cricket, acknowledging his contribution to the game at the highest level.
“May Allah Almighty grant the departed soul a place in His mercy and bless the bereaved family with patience,” Mohsin Naqvi said.
