Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider said on Saturday that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) would stand by transporters in resolving the issues they face.
A delegation of the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance met the Punjab governor at the Governor House in Lahore. The Punjab governor said that goods transport companies should instruct their drivers to avoid speeding in order to prevent accidents.
He said that across Pakistan, goods vehicles play an important role in supplying essential items to cities. Compliance with traffic laws, he added, is the duty of every transporter.
The Punjab governor said that goods vehicles must observe prescribed entry timings when entering cities. He said that failure to comply with traffic laws was causing loss of life.
Members of the Goods Transport Alliance said that transporters pay toll taxes amounting to billions of rupees and that the provision of facilities should be included among the government’s priorities. They said that illegal and unjustified fines were causing transport companies losses running into billions of rupees.
The Punjab governor assured the delegation that their issues would be addressed.
