A Levies officer was killed while heavy firing and explosions by unidentified armed men continued throughout Friday in the Mangchar area of Kalat district of Balochistan, suspending life and traffic on the Quetta-Karachi national highway.
According to Levies officials, the attackers launched a coordinated assault in multiple parts of the Mangchar area, including firing on a Levies post in Kot Langove, where a Levies officer lost his life. His body was later shifted to the Rural Health Centre (RHC) in Mangchar.
Simultaneously, a powerful explosion occurred under a bridge on the national highway in Rahimabad, Mangchar. Authorities reported minor structural damage to the bridge but confirmed that no casualties were caused by the blast.
The sustained gunfire at Johan Cross, a key junction in Mangchar, led to the complete suspension of traffic flow on the critical Quetta-Karachi highway, creating chaos for travelers and residents in the region.
In response, Levies and other law enforcement personnel swiftly cordoned off the affected areas and launched a search operation to track down the assailants.
Officials confirmed that despite multiple explosions and rounds of gunfire, no further casualties were reported apart from the slain Levies officer.
