Jamaat-e-Islami declared on Wednesday plans to stage demonstrations at more than 100 locations across Karachi this Friday, citing grievances over the city's acute water crisis and persistent electricity shortages.
The announcement was made by Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Emir Munim Zafar Khan, who also condemned what he described as corruption rampant within the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB).
The decision to protest follows a sit-in organized by Jamaat-e-Islami in front of the central office of Shahra-e-Faisal Water Corporation, where Khan addressed supporters and accused the KWSB of being a hotbed of corruption, with alleged involvement from MQM.
He criticised the provincial government's allocation of funds, claiming disparity in prioritizing projects such as the circular railway and renovations to the Chief Minister's House over essential services.
"Larger parts of the city continue to endure severe electricity load shedding," stated Munim Zafar Khan, underscoring the community's frustration with K Electric's operational shortcomings. He warned of escalating protests if the power utility fails to address the concerns raised by Karachi's residents.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader asserted that the current sit-in would expand into a broader city-wide protest if K Electric does not rectify its policies and operational practices promptly.
