Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan lambasted on Wednesday the prevailing state of affairs in the country, decrying what he described as the "law of the jungle" under the current regime.
Addressing the media outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Barrister Gohar condemned what he perceived as oppressive tactics wielded by those in power, asserting that the nation was subjected to arbitrary rule reminiscent of a jungle, where the king dictates and commits atrocities with impunity.
Expressing concerns over the lack of transparency in legal proceedings, Mr Gohar emphasised the importance of public and media presence during trials, particularly highlighting the need for scrutiny in what he deemed as "illegal trials."
He underscored the necessity for accountability, stating that the recent trial involving the PTI founder showcased the erosion of due process and the prevalence of unjust practices.
Barrister Gauhar accused authorities of attempting to restrict media access to court proceedings, citing instances where journalists were allegedly obstructed from covering hearings.
He lamented the opacity surrounding the trial, noting elaborate measures taken to hinder media coverage, including the installation of barriers and heightened security measures.
Highlighting the PTI's ongoing legal battles, Barrister reiterated the party's contention that cases against them were politically motivated and lacked substantive evidence. He expressed frustration over perceived delays in judicial proceedings and called for expedited hearings to address their grievances.
In a startling revelation, he disclosed concerns regarding the health of Bushra Bibi, alleging the possibility of poisoning. He stated that PTI Chairman Imran Khan raised apprehensions about her well-being in court, prompting an order for medical examinations to be conducted promptly.
Amidst speculation surrounding potential dialogue, the PTI chairman clarified that no substantive talks were underway at present. However, he assured transparency should negotiations resume, pledging to keep the public informed about any developments.
