Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday praised United States President Donald Trump for what he termed as his "decisive leadership for world peace", calling him the “best partner” Pakistan could hope for.
In a statement shared on his official social media account, the prime minister expressed gratitude towards President Trump, particularly commending his recent efforts to foster peace in South Asia.
“I am extremely grateful to President Trump for his pathbreaking leadership and commitment to global peace and for his most valuable offer to play a greater role in bringing lasting peace to South Asia,” PM Shehbaz said.
He added that Pakistan and the United States have remained close allies for decades, working together to promote mutual interests and ensure peace and security in critical regions around the world.
“In President @realDonaldTrump, Pakistan has found a great partner who can reinvigorate our strategic partnership and strengthen Pakistan-U.S. ties, not only in trade and investment but in all other areas of cooperation,” he stated.
The remarks come amid a renewed push by Washington to mediate regional tensions, particularly between Pakistan and India, following diplomatic engagement over the Kashmir dispute.
Trump eyes Kashmir solution after brokering ceasefire
Earlier today, US President Donald Trump expressed his pride in the leadership of both countries, acknowledging their efforts to step back from the brink of further escalation.
The announcement of the ceasefire, which took place after intense diplomatic interventions, has been hailed as a moment of de-escalation in a region that has long been a flashpoint for tension.
Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump lauded the decision by India and Pakistan to halt hostilities, describing it as a "historic and heroic" step. "I am proud that the USA was able to help you arrive at this historic and heroic decision," Trump wrote.
The ceasefire followed a series of intense missile exchanges between the two nuclear-armed nations, which had resulted in significant casualties and damage to military infrastructure.
