Pakistan is gearing up for what could potentially be a longer Eid holiday this year. As per meteorological forecasts, Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to fall on Wednesday, April 10th.
The Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry, had previously introduced a five-year lunar calendar in 2019 to address the persistent issue of moon sighting.
This year, in line with the calendar's predictions, Ramadan is set to comprise 29 days, culminating in the celebration of Eid on April 10th.
Collaborating with Chaudhry's initiative, the Meteorological Department has lent credence to the anticipated date, affirming that the Shawwal moon is likely to be sighted on the evening of the 29th of Ramadan.
Director General Sahibzad Khan reiterated the alignment of their scientific analysis with the lunar calendar, further solidifying expectations regarding the Eid festivities.
6 holidays expected
Traditionally, Eid holidays commence a day prior to the actual celebration, allowing for a period of preparation and festivity. In light of Eid falling on a Wednesday, the government has announced a four-day holiday, extending from Tuesday through Friday.
This, coupled with the ensuing weekend, is poised to grant the populace a substantial six-day break.
