The National Highway Authority (NHA) ensured uninterrupted traffic flow on national highways during heavy snowfall through the use of modern machinery and continuous monitoring.
The NHA spokesperson said that despite an unusually high influx of tourists in Murree and the Galiyat, the expressway remained open to all types of traffic. Continuous salt spreading was carried out to prevent skidding and potential accidents, thereby safeguarding the lives and property of travellers.
The spokesperson said that most highways in Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and the northern regions are fully clear. All highways in Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including Muzaffarabad, are open for traffic. At Sharkol Top on the Karakoram Highway, the route has been restored for one-way traffic. However, traffic flow remains slow due to an exceptional volume of vehicles. Contact has been made with the local administration to improve the situation.
In Balochistan, traffic on N-25 at Khojak Top and on N-50 from Kan Mehterzai to Muslim Bagh has been restored to normal. Snow clearance work is progressing rapidly on the N-65 Quetta–Kolpur section.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, all major routes except N-145 have been opened to traffic. On N-145 from Chitral to Roghi, one-way traffic is currently in operation, while snow removal work is under way at a fast pace between kilometres 31 and 33. The road from Skardu to Gbor is fully restored, while NHA teams are present on site to reopen closed sections between Gbor and Sasi Lime.
