Gas supply to industries and the CNG sector in Karachi will be suspended for 48 hours starting January 24, as authorities move to manage rising demand during the winter season, according to a spokesperson for Sui Southern Gas Company.
The Sui Southern spokesperson said gas supply to industries and the CNG sector in Karachi will remain suspended for 48 hours from Saturday, Jan 24. The suspension will begin at 8am on Saturday and continue until 8am on Monday.
The decision has been taken in view of the increasing demand for gas during the winter season.
Industries, captive power plants, CNG stations affected
According to Sui Southern, gas supply will be completely cut off to industries, captive power plants, and all CNG stations during this period. The move is aimed at managing limited gas availability amid heightened seasonal consumption.
Officials said this temporary suspension would help stabilize the gas network and ensure smoother distribution.
Priority to domestic, commercial users
The gas utility explained that the shutdown is intended to provide better gas pressure to domestic and commercial consumers across the city. During winter, household gas demand rises sharply, especially during morning and evening hours.
To manage this, domestic and commercial consumers will face scheduled gas supply suspension from 10pm to 5am.
Sui Southern has urged affected sectors and consumers to cooperate during the temporary suspension. The utility said such measures are necessary to balance supply and demand during peak winter conditions.
Officials added that gas supply is expected to resume as per schedule after the completion of the 48-hour period.
