Google’s latest flagship foldable, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, has run into a puzzling problem. Some users are reporting a question mark symbol next to the battery icon, leaving them unsure of their phone’s remaining power.
The issue, first spotted on Reddit, has reignited discussions about Google’s recurring battery troubles across its Pixel lineup.
A Reddit user recently shared that their Pixel 10 Pro Fold suddenly displayed a “?” beside the battery icon instead of showing the charge percentage. Although restarting the phone reportedly resolved the issue, the symbol’s meaning and potential cause have become a topic of debate within the Pixel community.
According to a report by Piunika Web, the problem might stem from non-Qi2-certified wireless chargers, which could interfere with the phone’s battery management system. This miscommunication may prevent the system from accurately reading the battery status, prompting the phone to display a question mark instead.

Mixed reactions from users
Reactions on Reddit were divided. Some users claimed the issue could signal a battery failure, while others believed it was just a software bug following a recent security update.
“This is step one to battery failure. Your phone will likely fail within weeks,” one Redditor warned.
Another user added, “My phone failed in less than a week after this. Good luck.”
Others, however, were more optimistic. “A lot of this started after the last update. It’s probably a bug, but reaching out to Google is the right call,” another user wrote.
Google Responds
In a statement to Android Central, a Google spokesperson said rebooting the phone should temporarily resolve the issue. The company also advised using certified Qi2 wireless chargers to avoid possible charging miscommunication.
Google confirmed that a software fix will be rolled out in its November update to address the problem.

Interestingly, the original Redditor mentioned they were using Apple’s MagSafe charger — a certified accessory — suggesting the issue might be software-related rather than a hardware fault.
Battery troubles aren’t new for Pixel phones
Unfortunately, battery-related controversies are not new to Google’s Pixel lineup. Past models like the Pixel 4a, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, and Pixel 7 Pro have faced criticism for issues ranging from overheating to swollen batteries.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold has already faced scrutiny once before, when its battery exploded during YouTuber JerryRigEverything’s durability test. Another Reddit user also reported the same “question mark” glitch on their Pixel 9 Pro Fold earlier this month — and Google replaced that device.
