Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he was grateful for the messages received from around the world in the wake of the Islamabad blast.
In a message on X, the prime minister said that support from friends and partners had always been important in efforts to combat terrorism. He added that the perpetrators of this heinous crime would be brought to justice with full force.
The prime minister further said that the terrorists’ wicked designs would never be allowed to succeed. He said the brave people of Pakistan were united and, as always, determined to defeat terrorism.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere in the area remains mournful after the suicide blast. Initial investigations suggested that four to six kilograms of explosive material were used, along with a large number of ball bearings.
The suicide attacker fired six shots from a pistol before entering the main hall of the mosque and detonating himself. The attacker was found to have been trained in Afghanistan and had a travel history. An identity card belonging to the attacker was recovered from the scene.
The alleged suicide attacker has been identified as Yasir, son of Dil Bahadur Khan. He was a resident of Mohalla Qaziyan in Peshawar. Four relatives of the attacker have also been arrested in Peshawar. The initial investigative report has been completed. The collective funeral prayer for the martyrs will be offered at 11am.
