Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said on Wednesday that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz kept a close watch on the province’s flood situation even during her visit to Japan.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Bukhari said the chief minister held meetings aboard the plane and remained in contact with provincial authorities for updates on relief and rescue operations.
She said Punjab had already prepared a coordinated plan for flood response, and all institutions were on alert. Bukhari added that India’s sudden release of water was anticipated, and precautionary measures had been taken in advance.
The minister said no loss of life has been reported so far, although for the first time in 38 years, the Ravi River has reached such high levels. She added that the Army has been called in for relief operations across several districts.
