Pakistani actress Sana Nawaz, who has formerly worked in Bollywood films such as Kaafila opposite Sunny Deol, has stirred controversy with her recent statement defending cross-border artistic collaboration amid the ongoing India-Pakistan tensions.
In the wake of India blocking Pakistani stars’ Instagram accounts and removing their images from film posters and music platforms—including Mawra Hocane from Sanam Teri Kasam, Mahira Khan from Raees, and Fawad Khan from Kapoor & Sons—Sana Nawaz has voiced her support for maintaining artistic ties.

In a video shared on her Instagram account, Sana remarked, “Artists are ambassadors of peace. There are no boundaries for artists—they spread love, and that’s what I believe in.”

She went on to say that actors frequently find themselves in a precarious situation, facing criticism when they voice their opinions and equally harsh criticism when they choose to remain silent.

However, her remarks have not been well-received by the public. Many believe that Pakistani artists should take a stronger stance against Indian hostility, especially in light of Operation Sindoor and recent aggression across the border.
Public outrage
Social media users were quick to respond, calling Sana's comments tone-deaf and disconnected from national sentiment. Here are a few reactions:
- “You keep getting humiliated while saying this dialogue.”
- “Indian actors stand with their army. Why can’t you?”
- “You’re an artist, but that doesn’t mean you can’t call out wrong.”
- “Artist ka bhi zameer hota hai (Artists also have a conscience).”
Critics argue that art cannot be separated from politics during times of conflict and that celebrities carry a responsibility to stand with their people and country.
