The official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Ministry of Economic Affairs was hacked late last night. A spokesperson for the ministry confirmed the breach, stating that any posts made during the hacking incident have no affiliation with the ministry.
According to the spokesperson, relevant authorities have been informed, and efforts are underway to recover the account. The public has been urged to disregard any recent posts from the compromised account.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, also confirmed the incident through her official X account. She reported the hacking and expressed concern over the security breach.
It is worth noting that the National Cyber Emergency Response Team (PakCERT) had already issued an advisory in light of escalating tensions between Pakistan and India, warning government institutions of potential cyberattacks and urging enhanced digital security protocols.
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, and cybersecurity teams are actively working to secure the compromised account and prevent future breaches.
