The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) has launched a significant initiative to revitalize Pakistan's tourism industry through the establishment of the Green Tourism Company. This move is expected to increase the country's tourism revenue to over $30 billion within the next five to six years.
The Green Tourism Company, backed by SIFC, has invested in government-owned recreational resorts, taking on annual expenses exceeding one billion rupees. The initiative aims to promote Pakistan as a tourist-friendly destination with support from all provinces.
In its first phase, the project has selected 20 locations across Pakistan, with 25% in Gilgit-Baltistan. The Green Tourism Company has invested 3 billion rupees in these sites. Gilgit-Baltistan's government will receive 35% of the profits, while 20% will be reinvested in tourism promotion.
This project is expected to create over 300 direct and up to 4,000 indirect job opportunities in Gilgit-Baltistan. The initiative focuses on eco-friendly development and aims to promote local culture, cuisine, art, and natural resources.
