Contrary to this belief, Pakistan has been actively diversifying its trade routes and exploring alternative paths for enhanced connectivity.
Rumours often circulate about the necessity of stability in Afghanistan for Pakistan to access Central Asian markets.
However, the fact remains that Afghanistan has been grappling with instability for many years, and the situation has worsened under the recent Taliban rule.
Undeterred by the challenges in Afghanistan, Pakistan has witnessed substantial growth in trade with Central Asian Republics, surpassing $487 million in the past year alone.
This growth is attributed to Pakistan's stable economic system and the adoption of innovative and proactive policies, contributing to increased trade volumes.
Pakistan's trade partnerships with Central Asian countries are on the rise, and it is anticipated that, by the end of 2024, significant advancements in trade volume will be achieved, particularly with Kazakhstan.
To counter the misconception that Pakistan is solely reliant on Afghanistan for trade in Central Asia, the country has actively explored alternative routes through Turkey and Russia.
Currently, four trade routes are in operation, each offering transit times ranging from 13 to 15 days.
1. China Route: Khunjerab (Pakistan), Kashgar (China), Kordai Ak-Zhol (Kyrgyzstan), Almaty (Kazakhstan).
2. China Route: Khunjerab (Pakistan), Dushanbe (Tajikistan), Tashkent (Uzbekistan).
3. Iran Route: Taftan (Pakistan), Birjand (Iran), Sarakhs (Iran), Dushanbe (Tajikistan), Tashkent (Uzbekistan), Moscow (Russia).
4. Iran Route: Taftan (Pakistan), Qom (Iran), Baku (Azerbaijan), Istanbul (Turkey).
Additionally, Pakistan has extended its trade ventures to the West through the Spice Routes, opening up opportunities in the Western market.
National Logistics Corporation has played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of these trade initiatives.
With over 240 operations completed, the Corporation has efficiently transported pharmaceuticals, textiles, leather, surgical equipment, machinery, and chemicals.
Notably, this has also resulted in the creation of jobs for civilian contractors and drivers, contributing positively to the national economy.
