Three of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises have called for an auction in the forthcoming 11th edition of the tournament.
Sources said on Tuesday that Karachi Kings, Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators support the auction model for PSL 11. The franchises have raised several questions with the PSL administration regarding arrangements for the next edition of the league.
According to sources, the franchises have sought clarity on the procedure for direct signings and the number of players to be signed through this route. They have also asked who is finalising player categories and requested that franchises be taken into confidence on the matter.
Sources added that franchises have begun to share their views on drafting and auction mechanisms. Karachi Kings, Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators favour an auction, with the view that the draft system allows franchises with earlier picks to secure stronger players. They were of the view that the players they intend to sign are often taken by others, and therefore an auction should be introduced.
Lahore Qalandars, however, support the draft system, sources said. No input has been received from Peshawar Zalmi so far.
The sources privy to the mather further told that the PSL franchises are awaiting a response from PSL management, but no reply has been received to date.
