Australian women’s cricketer Alyssa Healy has announced her retirement from international cricket after a career spanning 15 years.
Healy said she will not be part of the T20I side but will play her final One Day International and Test matches against India on home grounds. Cricket Australia confirmed that the wicketkeeper-batter will step away from all formats after the upcoming series against India.
The 35-year-old began her international career in 2010. She played 295 international matches, scoring more than 7,000 runs. Behind the stumps, she was involved in 275 dismissals.
Healy took over full-time captaincy duties in 2023. She remained part of eight ICC World Cup-winning squads and is widely regarded as one of the finest batters and wicketkeepers in the women’s game.
Speaking about her decision, Healy said she was retiring with mixed emotions. She said the desire to represent Australia remains, but the competitive edge may no longer be the same, making this the right time to step away.
Cricket Australia chief executive Todd Greenberg thanked Healy for her service, describing her career as outstanding. He said her achievements during the series against India will be celebrated throughout the tour.
It is pertinent to note that Healy is married to Australian ace fast bowler Mitchell Starc.
