Elon Musk, owner of X and CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, shared a video on his social media platform that was later found to contain incorrect information.
Musk reposted a video on X (formerly Twitter), claiming it had been live-streamed from Antarctica using Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service. However, X’s Community Notes feature corrected the claim, stating that the video was actually filmed in Patagonia, a region in South America - not Antarctica.
The episode began when X user Sawyer Merritt shared a Starlink Super Bowl advertisement on February 9, noting that for the first time, SpaceX had created a Super Bowl ad for @Starlink.
Responding to the post, Musk wrote that most people still do not realize Starlink provides high-speed, low-latency, and low-cost internet to nearly every corner of the Earth.
Later, another user, Mario Nawfal, shared a video of a naturally formed ice cave resembling a cathedral in Patagonia. He claimed that, thanks to Starlink, someone had live-streamed Antarctica’s famous “ice wall” for the first time, calling @Starlink a game changer for the streaming industry.
Reinforcing the claim, Musk stated that the video had been live-streamed from Antarctica via @Starlink.
However, Community Notes clarified that the person who recorded the video explicitly mentioned streaming from Patagonia in South America, confirming that the livestream did not originate from Antarctica.
