Four police officers, including a station house officer (SHO), were martyred in a terrorist attack during a search operation in the Wanda Budh area of Dera Ismail Khan.
Police said the attack took place within the jurisdiction of Shaheed Nawab Khan police station when armed men opened fire on a police party conducting a search operation. The assailants were stated to be affiliated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan's (TTP) Tipu Gul Marwat group.
An intense exchange of fire ensued between the two sides. SHO Faheem Mumtaz Khan Marwat was martyred in the firing, along with Constable Irfan Khan, Ghulam Subhani and Wajahat.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Adnan Khan sustained serious injuries in the incident. His driver, Tariq Khan, and two gunmen were also injured and were shifted to hospital without delay.
A heavy police contingent reached the scene and cordoned off the area. The search operation against the assailants continued, while checkpoints were established in nearby localities to trace those involved, police sources said.
