The Pakistan government has decided to completely revamp the design of the national passport, introducing a modern look that highlights the country’s cultural and architectural heritage while adding advanced security features, official sources confirmed on Wednesday.
The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) has obtained approval from the Ministry of Interior to move forward with the project. Printing of the newly designed passports is expected to begin soon, according to government insiders.
New design to feature provincial heritage
In a major aesthetic update, the new passport will showcase photographs of historical and important buildings representing all four provinces — Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.
Officials said the decision aims to highlight Pakistan’s national identity and cultural diversity, allowing citizens and travelers to carry a symbol of the country’s rich heritage wherever they go.
Enhanced security features
According to sources, the redesigned passport will also incorporate modern security features to ensure greater protection against forgery, duplication, and misuse.
Sources within the ministry said the printing process for the modern passports will begin in the near future, following final approvals of design and security specifications.
Once rolled out, the redesigned passports will gradually replace existing versions as citizens renew their documents.
