Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed serious concern over the repeated malfunctions and stoppage of production in the Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project and directed them to take strict action by directly identifying those who are responsible.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting regarding the Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project in which a preliminary report was presented on the reasons for the closure of the project. According to the report, the hydropower project was constructed in a weak geological and earthquake-prone area.
In the meeting, there was opposition to conducting an inquiry through a third-party audit, on which the Prime Minister indicated to form a cabinet committee to determine the responsible parties.
The prime minister said that despite spending billions of dollars, there were flaws in the project's design as well as in the construction, with places where sand should have been filled in instead of concrete infill. China Energy addressed the challenges that needed to be handled to operationalize the project as soon as feasible before the Gizuba Group.

In the meeting, a committee consisting of former Secretary Shahid Khan and Secretary Water Resources Syed Ali Murtaza was established and given the task of investigating the defects of the project.
