Chinese Consul General in Karachi Yang Yundong hosted a special media reception on Thursday afternoon in a celebration marking the upcoming Lunar New Year, bringing together prominent journalists and media representatives from across Sindh and Balochistan.
The reception was attended by senior figures from Pakistan's media landscape, underscoring the significance of the relationship. Notable attendees included Karachi Press Club President Fazil Jamili, Secretary General Muhammad Aslam Khan, and former club president Saeed Sarbazi.
The consul general, extending warm greetings for the Year of the Horse, spoke of its cultural symbolism for passion, vitality, and success. "I wish you all a year of taking the lead and achieving immediate success in all your endeavors," he told the gathering.
Mr Yang lauded the media fraternity for being instrumental in the growth of bilateral ties. He described them as a "mirror" reflecting the robust development of relations and a "think tank" providing valuable insights to the consulate general. He specifically commended their extensive coverage of high-level exchanges, practical cooperation projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Sindh and Balochistan, and their role as communicators of China's modernization achievements in fields like AI, semiconductors, and new infrastructure.
"The friendly ties we share with our media friends are a precious asset," the consul general stated, acknowledging the "high sense of mission and responsibility" demonstrated by Pakistani journalists over the years. He particularly noted the value of visits to China organized for media representatives, which have allowed them to witness China's development firsthand and become "practitioners and promoters of China-Pakistan friendship."
Providing a macroeconomic perspective, Mr Yang summarized China's economic resilience in 2025, achieving 5% growth amid global challenges, and outlined the key pillars of the newly commenced 15th Five-Year Plan (2026). These include innovation-driven development, deepening the "AI Plus" initiative, advancing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and accelerating the green transition.
The focal point of the speech was the forthcoming 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China in 2026. Mr. Yang highlighted the recent strategic dialogue in Beijing between the two foreign ministers, which launched the anniversary commemorations, as a testament to the unique and prioritized nature of the partnership.
"Standing at this unique historical coordinate, we must remain firm in our belief that the China-Pakistan friendship has remained true to its original aspiration despite the changing times," he emphasized. He called upon all media friends to actively participate in endowing the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership with "more prominent contemporary value, a deeper social foundation, and broader development prospects."
Consul General Yang concluded, "Let us work together with renewed momentum and unremitting efforts -- just like a galloping horse -- to tell the compelling stories of China-Pakistan relations in the new era. China-Pakistan Dosti Zindabad!"
