The Sindh Police has introduced new media engagement guidelines requiring all police officers to obtain prior approval from the inspector general (IG) Sindh before participating in any media briefing, interview, or public discussion in an official capacity.
The directives, issued to all Additional IGs, DIGs, and SSPs, aim to regulate official communication and prevent the disclosure of sensitive information related to policing and security matters.
Under the new instructions, no Sindh Police officer will be allowed to appear before the media without prior permission from the IG Sindh.
The policy makes prior approval compulsory for participation in television programs, radio shows, podcasts, press conferences, digital media platforms, and other public forums when representing the police in an official capacity.
Requests must be routed through heads
According to the directives, officers seeking to participate in media engagements must submit their requests through the head of their respective formation.
Only after receiving formal approval from the IG Sindh will officers be permitted to appear before the media.
Discussions restricted to approved agenda
The new guidelines also require authorized officers to strictly adhere to the agenda approved as part of their permission.
Officers have been instructed not to go beyond the authorized topics during interviews, media briefings, or public appearances.
The directives place a complete ban on revealing sensitive information concerning ongoing investigations, intelligence matters, and operational activities.
The move is intended to safeguard confidential information and ensure that sensitive law enforcement matters are not disclosed publicly.
Strict implementation ordered
The IG Sindh has directed all supervisory officers to ensure the strict implementation of the new media policy across the province.
The instructions have been formally issued to all Additional Inspectors General (Additional IGs), Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs).
Violations may lead to departmental, legal action
The Sindh Police has warned that violations of the new directives will be treated seriously.
Officials who fail to comply with the policy may face departmental proceedings, while legal action may also be initiated where applicable, according to the instructions.
